Most components in the Hi-Fi Chain are close to perfection (neutrality) from an audible point of view. Loudspeakers however, are generally considered colored.
To investigate this and why the same speaker sounds different in different rooms the Gradient research team devised the experiment below.
Gradient compared an audio signal via a speaker and microphone in an anochoic chamber versus the direct feed. RESULT - The two feeds were indistinguishable !!!
CONCLUSION - Room reflections and Room nodes are the dominant source of speaker coloration, not the speaker itself.
